you first get a project to fire up. It’s one of the top three or four feelings in the world.

I’m currently in the process of totally stripping this bike down to its bare bones. It’s a 1974 CL450. First thing I wanted to do was a battery delete. I built my own 40k uF capacitor using parts from the electronics store.

This capacitor won’t store enough juice to power the electronic starter, so I’ll be removing all of its components as well. I’ve already removed all the blinkers, and will be installing an LED headlight and tail light. I still need to clean up all the wiring, tune the carbs, wrap and extend the exhaust a bit, fab up some rear seats, and figure out what I want to do with the seat. The original owner installed forward controls, so I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with the foot pegs and controls. I found a wrecked CBR600 at a local moto junkyard and snagged its rear sets. I think I’ll be able to figure something out with them.

That feeling is the absolute BEST. I have a video of the first start up of my project Camaro that I watch every once in a while. It gives me motivation.

Thanks. I wasn’t sure visit would sound with the short pipes, but I really like it. I can’t wait to really wind her up. The engine in this thing is pretty cool. It’s a DOHC twin which uses torsion bars instead of springs to operate the valves. Made 100hp/L when it came out in the ‘60s. The engine covers are all magnesium as well. It's basically a race engine that they stuck in these things.

That does sound impressive, although I don’t know much about technical stuff (should be working on that one day....).

I assume you’re not going to bring it back to its original state? More “cafe racer”, since you’ve picked the short pipes?

Yeah, it’s going to be in between a cafe and it’s original state. I’m thinking Brat style.

My 73 Yamaha TX500 after an engine rebuild. DOHC parallel 180° twin.

Is your Honda a 0° or a 360°

Nice! The Hondas are 180 degree straight twins.

Quick clarification: Anything 350 and up is a 180-degree twin. The smaller ones (I have a CB175 in addition to my CL350) are 360-degree cranks.
